Omocom has launched unique insurance for second-hand products on Swedens largest marketplace Blocket

The Swedish insurtech company Omocom and risk carrier W. R Berkley Insurance AG have developed and launched an insurance solution to increase security and to lower the threshold for purchasing used electronics. The insurance is sold through Sweden's leading peer-to-peer marketplace for second-hand goods, Blocket.

The insurance protects buyers who have identified hidden faults on their recently purchased product. The purpose is to make sure that the product functions as expected. Examples of hidden faults that are covered by the insurance can be a camera that stops working or a phone which does not charge properly. It provides compensation for repairs and spare parts up to a maximum of SEK 10,000.

“The product that we've created together with Blocket is both incredibly exciting and also pretty unique. We simply wanted to erase all the major concerns of buying second-hand and the risk of products not functioning as expected. The purchase of the insurance is made smoothly by clicking on the Omocom offer displayed next to each and every product within the Electronics category on Blocket. The consumer can choose between three different insurance packages with different price levels based on insured value. The payment of the premium is made seamlessly through Omocom's partner Trustly and a personal insurance letter is automatically sent to the buyer's specified e-mail.

Initially, the insurance was launched in Blocket's electronics categories, but the plan is to expand the product broadly across most of the categories that Blocket provide, insuring everything from toys to clothes.

Founded in -96, Blocket.se is currently Sweden's largest online marketplace for buying and selling second-hand products and says the following in its press commentary regarding the collaboration with Omocom:

We started by launching the product in the mobile category and after a positive receiving, we've now launched it to the entire electronics category. Blocket och Omocom lanserar försäkring för begagnad elektronik

Den digitala försäkringsförmedlaren Omocom, i samarbete med W. R Berkley Insurance AG som riskbärare, har tagit fram en försäkringslösning för att öka tryggheten och sänka tröskeln för köp av begagnad elektronik som säljs via Sveriges ledande marknadsplats Blocket. Försäkringen fungerar som en dolda fel-försäkring och riktar sig till köparen av produkten och ger ersättning för reparation och reservdelar om produkten inte skulle fungera som förväntat, maximalt ersättningsbelopp uppgår till 10  000 kr. Exempel på dolda fel som ersätts av försäkringen kan vara att kameran på en mobiltelefon slutar att fungera eller om telefonen inte laddar ordentligt.

Köpet av försäkringen görs smidigt genom att klicka på Omocom-erbjudandet som exponeras intill varje annons där konsument får välja mellan tre olika prisnivåer baserat på ersättningsvärde. Betalning görs smidigt tillsammans med Omocom’s betalpartner Trustly och i samband med att premien betalas skickas ett personligt försäkringsbrev automatiskt iväg till köparens uppgivna e-mail.

Inledningsvis lanseras försäkringen inom Blockets Elektronik-kategorier men tanken är att expandera produkten brett över de flesta kategorier som Blocket tillhandahåller för att få fler att våga konsumera begagnat, för en mer hållbar framtid. – ”“Vi ser väldigt positivt på samarbetet med Omocom och Blocket. Schibsted-ägda Blocket, som nog knappast behöver någon närmare introducering, har sedan tidigare verkat för att göra begagnathandeln än mer trygg och säger följande i sin presskommentar om samarbetet med insuretechbolaget Omocom:

Omocom is with COO! Welcome Richard Hernemyr

A lot of things is happening at Omocom, and not least we warmly welcome Richard Hernemyr as Chief Operating Officer, COO, at the company.

International expansion, growing work-teams and a dozen tailor-made insurance products built to scale within Europe are some of the major events over which Richard Hernemyr will have the overall operational responsibility for.

A highly welcomed role to play in an important stage of the Omocom journey. For Richard, who is used to working with SaaS and startups, Omocom will be his fourth startup in the series.

We asked Richard the question what was so special about Omocom that made him nibble.

Says Richard Hernemyr of Omocom.

When Richard is not working, he likes to spend time on outdoor activities, and especially running. He also says that he loves building and woodwork in his spare time. "Like a happy amateur," he adds.
